You want this summer to be epic, right? When you get back to school and someone asks you the most anticipated question, “so what did you do over summer?” you want to have some kick ass answers, not stare blankly into space, trying to think of something, anything that you did (always happens to me).

And how are you going to ensure that you have an awesome summer? By making a summer bucket list of course (this will also give you something to reference when people ask you what you did). Here are a few ideas to get your list started.

No-life it to Netflix:

If you are going to be a couch potato, do it right! It’s time to go on a Netflix binge. Saying you sat around and watched TV all day sounds lame, but if you say you got through some awesome series, it’s automatically cool! To make it more fun, have a friend binge watch with you.

I would personally recommend “Breaking Bad” and “Lost,” and some people have told me that “Twin Peaks” is not to be missed. “New Girl” is also incredibly funny, though not all the seasons are on Netflix. If the series is complete, you’ll be able to finish the whole thing before the end of summer, which will be pretty impressive to whomever you are telling your summer adventures to. You can also binge to a series of films (the X-men series is on my list).

Here’s a list of the 50 best shows on Netflix right now. Get cracking!

Hot Air Balloon ride:

Okay, who wouldn’t want to go in a hot air balloon? Riding in one is a bit pricey, so if you are thinking of adding it to the list, put it towards the bottom as something to save up for. I’ve always thought going in one would be super awesome, especially if you go for the sunset. Talk about romantic (queue cheesy love song). This will make for a great story, especially since a lot of people want to ride in one, but haven’t gotten around to doing it.

Camp under the stars:

Screw the tent, you want to be one with nature. The new fad is to just lay under the stars in a sleeping bag, or pitch up some hammocks and rock in the breeze. How cool is that! (Make sure not to leave any food out though; you wouldn’t want to get attacked by a wild animal or anything). Camping is always a great way to spend time, especially in summer when camping under the stars won’t mean freezing ice-cold temperatures.

Bring along some friends, marshmallows, some instruments and have a blast. It’s always nice to get away from technology every once in a while, and while you still want to have cell service for safety reasons, try and stay off your devices for the trip.

Never been camping? Here are some tips to keep in mind.

Learn how to surf:

Everyone goes to the beach, sees the surfing lessons and contemplates taking one, but how many actually do? This is your chance, the summer you are going to get out there and surf some waves, brah. This one is definitely on my bucket list, since I’m from so-cal and still don’t know how to do this (embarrassing, I know).

If surfing isn’t your style, you can always go boogie boarding or body surfing, or simply just swim. The beach is an oldie but a goodie. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Get organized:

The great thing about not having school is that you can have fun, but getting some work in never hurts. Summer is the perfect time to get yourself organized. Clean out that closet, throw out old stuff you don’t need, sell your textbooks, etc. While this may not be the most fun thing on your list, de-cluttering your life will make you feel great, and you know you’re not going to do it when you have class.

Get artsy:

You know all those DIY pins you pin on Pinterest but have never gotten around to doing? Well now’s your chance.  DIY projects are super fun, and are a way to make something out of your day that you can then use to decorate your place. Some of the things that look super fun might not come out how you hoped, so it will be an experience seeing which ones actually work and which ones look not so hot (those always make for great stories later).

This is also a great way to bond with younger siblings. I know that you mainly want to hang out with your friends, but your siblings will really appreciate their big brother or sister who is always away spending some time with them.

Do something that’s “not you”:

We always tend to get stuck in our usual routines, playing it safe and only doing things that seem typical to that character. This summer, I dare you to break out of that and do something that no one would ever think you would do. This is a way to branch out and give things a second chance, since taste changes over time. Don’t really like country music? Check out a free concert. Afraid of horses? Take a riding lesson.

This will definitely be a memory to remember, whether you ended up having fun or not.

Go paintballing:

The question isn’t why, but why not? Though everyone will warn you that you’ll get welts, they also say it’s totally worth it. I’ve never gone before and really want to try it. I would recommend going with people that are at a similar skill level as you, or go practice with some BB guns first so you don’t get totally creamed by your friends.

Here’s how to prepare for a game of paintball.

Make a time capsule:

What will you be doing 10, 20, 30 years from now? It’s always fun to write future you letters about where you think your life is headed, and to open it later and see if you were right. You could put some photos in there, a mixed tape (people still make those right?), random things that will be funny to dig up on a designated day in the future.

This is one of those things that we always say we want to do but then never get around to doing, but this summer you are going to do it!

Convince someone you are from a foreign country:

Do you have a knack for accents? Then this one is for you. My sister and I once walked around the airport, trying to speak in British accents, and it was really bad, but I know some people are amazing at doing accents. Even if you don’t think you are, give it a go and see if you’ll be able to convince some people. Make sure to look up a city that you could “be from,” so if they ask you what part of France you live in, you won’t stand there looking silly.

These are just a few examples of what you can do with your summer. Whatever you decide on, make it count! It’s your break and you deserve it.
